Digital Privacy Policy

The Basics

Privacy policies are long and complicated. To make sure that you fully understand our privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”), Quanser Consulting Inc. (“Company,” “Quanser,” “we,” “our,” “us”) has created a summary that outlines our data privacy and security strategy. Our general policies are as follows: We only gather personal information as described in this Privacy Policy.

1. You can view and alter your personal information at any time. You can also request that your account be deleted at any time. You will receive a report detailing the information that was removed. Aggregate backups of our servers that may include your information and copies of invoices will not be deleted.

2. We will not gather information on children under the age of 16 without express consent from a parent or guardian.

3. We take all reasonable measures to secure your data, including encryption, oversight of processing activities, and tightly controlled access. If you would like more information on our data protection policies, please contact us at privacy@quanser.com.

4. Your personal information is stored on the Microsoft Azure cloud and Marketo cloud. Your consent agreement is stored on Amazon Web Services. Billing information associated with online payments that you may make will be processed and controlled by our third-party payment processor Stripe. We have guarantees that all of these providers have taken all reasonable technological, physical and organizational measures to protect your data.

5. We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties except as discussed in this Privacy Policy.

6. If you have opted into receiving emails from us, we will occasionally contact you to introduce new products or services, or with other information, we believe you may find interesting. We may also contact you when the status of your products changes, or to notify you of changes to our platforms in compliance with Canada’s anti-spam legislation. You will always have the opportunity to unsubscribe from receiving any of our e-mail or other communications at any time, and we will ensure that our e-mails include instructions on how to unsubscribe if you no longer wish to receive future e-mails from us. We provide an ongoing opportunity to unsubscribe or opt-out of contact by us as described in the footer of all emails, or you may contact us to make your request by email at privacy@quanser.com, or via courier, post or telephone to:

If you decide to unsubscribe, we will only contact you (i) for the purposes allowed under applicable law; (ii) to send you notices of changes to our Privacy Policy; or (iii) to receive Service-related messages.

7. We collect anonymous data to track usage of our services using Google Analytics and other third-party service providers, and some anonymous information is collected on the use of Quanser mobile app content modules. No personal information is ever attached to the tracking information.

Privacy Policy

Quanser Consulting Inc. (“Company”, “we”, “our” or “us”) values the relationships that we have with our users and customers, including you (“you” or “your”). Part of our commitment to our clients is a respect for your privacy and personal information which is information about an identifiable individual (as defined by Canadian privacy laws). This Privacy Policy describes the kinds of personal information we collect about you, why we collect it, how we use it, how we protect it, and under what circumstances we share it with third parties when you use our website www.quanser.com (the “Site”), your Academic Portal (the “Portal”), any Quanser Interactive Labs apps (“apps”) and our products and services, including our cloud-based subscription services (collectively, the “Services”). This Privacy Policy also describes the decisions you can make about your personal information. You may require us to change, amend or delete the personal information that you have provided to us at any time.

If this Privacy Policy changes in the future, we will post an updated version on our Site. We recommend that you check this Site periodically in order to review our current Privacy Policy. You can tell if this Privacy Policy has changed by checking the effective date that appears at the bottom of this Privacy Policy. Depending on the circumstances, we may also choose to send you a notice electronically that the Privacy Policy was changed. If you continue to use the Site, the Portal, any apps or Services after the Privacy Policy changes or notice of the change has been given, you will be deemed to have accepted such changes.

By using our Site, Portal, apps and Services and supplying your personal information, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy, and you agree and consent to the collection, use, disclosure and other processing of your personal information as outlined in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use our Site, Portal, apps or Services or otherwise supply your personal information to us.

  1. What personal information do we collect?

We collect your personal information about you when you provide it to us or use our Services, the Site, the Portal or our apps. We may also collect information about you from certain third parties. In most instances, you will decide what information you provide us. In certain instances, if you choose to not provide us with personal information, you may not be able to fully utilize our Services, apps, Portal or Site. The types of personal information that we may collect include, but are not limited to:

  • Contact information such as your name, postal address, country of residence, e-mail address and telephone number;
  • Information and documents to help us verify your identity;
  • your IP address; and
  • Personal information you give us that we did not request (such as personal information you voluntarily put into an email to us).
  1. Why do we collect your personal information?

We collect, use and disclose your personal information in order to provide you with our Services. We also collect, use and disclose your personal information to comply with legal and regulatory requirements and as otherwise may be permitted or required by applicable Canadian laws. We will only use the personal information that we collect for the purposes for which it was collected. We collect your personal information for the following purposes and in accordance with applicable Canadian laws:

  • to provide you with our Services;
  • to communicate with you for the purposes of confirming your registration;
  • to track your purchase(s) and/or academic session(s) that you have joined;
  • to learn more about you and your product preferences by looking at, among other things, the IP address of your computer and your activity on the Site, Portal, and in the apps;
  • to address problems with, and improve, our Site and app design, Services, and offerings;
  • to verify and confirm your identity;
  • to establish and maintain commercial relations with you, including responding to your questions regarding our Services;
  • to respond to questions that you send by email or through our Site;
  • subject to applicable Canadian law, to notify you about other Services and events provided by Quanser, which may be of interest to you;
  • to customize the appearance of the Site displayed to you;
  • to obtain your feedback regarding our Site and Services, including our surveys;
  • to track behavioural information on the Site to serve similar content upon future visits;
  • to support our business functions such as internal business processes, marketing and advertising; and
  • to meet any legal or regulatory requirements.
  1. When do we collect your personal information?

We may collect your personal information when you voluntarily provide it to us by using our Site, Portal, apps and Services or from third-party sources. For example, we may ask you to provide personal information if you:

  • use our Site, apps, Portal and our Services;
  • register, update or create an account on our Site, Portal, apps and our Services;
  • sign into your account;
  • send us a question or comment by email or phone;
  • post comments or other content on our Site, apps, Portal and our Services;
  • register to receive newsletters, articles and updates about our Services; and
  • otherwise, participate in features of our Site and our Services that ask for personal information.

In addition, when you visit our Site, Portal, and use the apps, we collect certain anonymized information about your activity on our Site, Portal, and in the apps, as described below under the heading “Our use of Cookies and Log Files”. We will remove personal identifiers from your information and maintain and use it in an anonymous form that may later be combined with other information to generate aggregated information such as site traffic or app usage analytics. (“Anonymous Data”).

  1. Limiting Collection of Personal Information

We limit the collection of your personal information to information that is necessary to fulfill the purposes identified in this Privacy Policy, and we collect, use and disclose your personal information only in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

  1. Consent, Use, Disclosure and Retention of Personal Information

Your personal information will not be used without your consent for purposes other than those for which it was collected or in accordance with applicable Canadian laws. From time to time, we may wish to use personal information for new or additional purposes, in which case we will amend the Privacy Policy to include these new or additional purposes and will obtain your consent through your continued use of our Site, Portal, apps and Services.

As discussed above, we may generate Anonymous Data from personal information collected through the Site, Portal, apps and Services by removing information that makes the data personally identifiable to an individual. Such Anonymous Data includes but is not limited to, the information we collect from your use of our Site, Portal, apps and Services. We may use this Anonymous Data and aggregated data for any reasonable purpose subject to applicable Canadian laws and disclose such data to third parties at our sole discretion.

We retain your personal information only for as long as we need it to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected and to comply with our legal obligations, after which your personal information is securely destroyed.

In accordance with this Privacy Policy, we may share your personal information within the Company. We may also use and disclose your personal information to service providers, data processors and other third parties (“Third Parties”) under the following limited circumstances:

  • to Third Parties that assist with our operations and Site, Portal, apps and Services, including, without limitation, customer services, our business operations, monitoring and analyzing Site activity, and operating and maintaining the Site. Such Third Parties may only use your personal information for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy;
  • to our financial, insurance, legal, accounting or other advisers that provide professional services to us that are subject to confidentiality restrictions;
  • in connection with the due diligence for, and completion of, a business transaction, including, without limitation, securitization or financing involving Quanser, its subsidiaries or affiliates;
  • if we sell or transfer all or a portion of our business or assets to a related company or a third party. Your personal information will remain subject to our pre-existing Privacy Policy unless you agree to the privacy policy of the company or third party that acquires your personal information; or
  • with your consent.

Additionally, we may share your personal information, to the extent necessary, in our good faith judgment. Doing so is required to: comply with laws or regulations; respond to a valid subpoena, order, or government request; establish or exercise the Company’s legal rights or defend against legal claims; investigate, detect, suppress, prevent or take action regarding illegal or prohibited activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the reputation or physical safety of any person; when necessary to protect our safety, property or other rights of our representatives, customers and users of the Site, Portal and apps; or as otherwise required by law.

  1. Our Use of Cookies and Log Files

We use browser tracking cookies (or “cookies”), which are small text files that are placed on the hard disk of a computer by a website. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you and can only be read by a website or web server that issued the cookie to you. We also use browser “log files” which record certain information when you visit a website, including your internet protocol (IP) address. To improve your experience on our Site, Portal and apps, we use cookies and log files to: recognize you when you return to our Site; keep track of activity on our Site and remember what items you have clicked on or viewed; study how you navigate through our Site and your requests in site searches so that we can improve the design, content and function of our Site and apps. We call this “Browsing Data”. We may hire Third Parties to assist us in the collection and analysis of this Browsing Data collected through cookies, but none of your personal information is disclosed to these third-party service providers. You can refuse cookies by turning them off or blocking them in your internet browser. If you decide to turn off or block cookies, our website or services may not function correctly.

  1. Security

We aim to provide you with a safe experience. We have in place certain physical, electronic, technological, and organizational safeguards to reasonably protect the security and privacy of your personal information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification. Please note, however, that while we try to create a secure and reliable app, Portal, and Site for users, the confidentiality of any communication or material transmitted to or from the Site, Portal, apps, or via e-mail cannot be guaranteed.

We limit access to your personal information within the Company to individuals on a need-to-know basis.

  1. Third-Party Analytics

Our Site uses third-party analytics service providers (“Service Providers”) such as Apple App Store Connect, Google Analytics, Google Ad-Words, Google Play Console, Marketo, App Annie, and Box.com. These Service Providers may use cookies to analyze how you use our Site. The information generated by these cookies about your use of our Site (including your IP address) may be sent to servers in the U.S. and stored there. These Service Providers may use this information to evaluate your use of our Site, compile reports on Site activity for our Site operators and provide other Site activity-related internet services. Additionally, these Service Providers may transfer this information to other third parties when required by law or in the case of a third party that processes information on behalf of the Service Providers. You can set your internet browser to prohibit the installation of cookies, although we must point out that some features and functions of our Site will then be unusable. By using our Site, you consent to the processing of data about you collected by these Service Providers in the manner described and for the above-mentioned purpose. The consent for the collection and storage of data can be withdrawn at any time in the future by contacting the Service Providers directly or by visiting their websites.

Further, we may use the cookies to carry out frequency assessments, page usage assessments and marketing assessments. For these assessments, we use this cookie information without a link to your personal information, so it is completely anonymous.

Quanser is not liable or responsible, in any way, for how these Service Providers collect, use, manage, store, or share your information.   1. Data Transfers

Your personal information may be collected, used, processed, transferred, and retained in multiple countries, including Canada, the United States, and the European Economic Area, which may be outside the region in which you are situated and may have different privacy or data protection legislation, and may therefore be subject to the laws of these countries. Additionally and as discussed above, we may also engage Third Parties to perform certain services on our behalf and to otherwise provide the Services. These Third Parties may store, process and transfer personal information on servers located outside of Canada in jurisdictions whose data protection laws may differ from those of Canada, such as the United States of America. As a result, personal information may be subject to access requests from governments, courts, or law enforcement in those jurisdictions according to the laws in those jurisdictions. For example, information may be shared in response to valid demands or requests from government authorities, courts and law enforcement officials in those countries. Subject to applicable laws in such other jurisdictions, we will use reasonable efforts to ensure that appropriate protections are in place to require our Third Parties to maintain protections on personal information that are equivalent to those that apply in Canada.

  1. Links to Other Sites

We may provide links on our Site, Portal, and in the apps to other third-party sites we think you will enjoy. These operate independently of us and have established their own privacy and security policies. Any personal information you provide on linked pages or other sites is provided directly to that third party and is subject to that third party’s privacy policy. Other sites may collect and treat information collected differently, so we encourage you to carefully read and review the privacy policy of each site you visit. This Privacy Policy does not apply to such linked pages or other sites, and we are not responsible for the content or practices of any linked websites, as these are provided solely for your convenience.

  1. Children’s Online Privacy Protection

The Site, Portal, and apps are not intended for use by children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect or use any personal information from any children under the age of 16. If we become aware that we have unknowingly collected personal information from a child under the age of 16, we will make commercially reasonable efforts to delete such personal information from our database.

  1. Electronic Communications

As part of signing up to receive the Services, you may have also opted in to receive email communications from us. If you opted-in to receive such communications, we may use the information to: communicate with you regarding our Services and promotions; provide you with other information that you request; and/or improve our Service offerings.

You will always have the opportunity to unsubscribe from receiving any of our e-mail or other communications at any time, and we will ensure that our e-mails include instructions on how to unsubscribe if you no longer wish to receive future e-mails from us. If you contact us to do any of the things listed above, we may require you to provide sufficient personal information to allow us to verify your identity in order to tell you about the existence, use and disclosure of your personal information. Any personal information collected from you for identity verification purposes will only be used for such purposes. If you contact us about your personal information, we will respond to your request within a reasonable time and at no cost to you.

Generally, you may withdraw at any time your consent for us to use and disclose your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. As such, we may continue to use your personal information as may be required to provide you with requested Services, and to the extent that we are contractually obligated to do so or as necessary to enforce any contractual obligations you may have with us. If you refuse to provide us with the information we require or later contact us to withdraw your consent to use and disclose this information, we may no longer be able to provide you with access to the Site, Portal, apps, or Services.

Unless otherwise stated above, any Services provided by Quanser are controlled and operated by us from Canada, and we do not intend that the Site, Portal, apps, or Services subject us to the laws or jurisdiction of any state, country or territory other than that of Canada. We do not represent or warrant that the Services, or any part of the Site, Portal, or apps, are appropriate or available for use in any particular jurisdiction. Those who choose to access the Site, Portal, apps, or Services do so on their own initiative and at their own risk and are responsible for complying with all local laws, rules and regulations. We may limit the Site, Portal, apps, and Services’ availability, in whole or in part, to any person, geographic area or jurisdiction We choose, at any time and in our sole discretion.
