General FAQ
1. Software
You can customize QLabs if using one of the Open World workspaces.
QUARC network and lab licenses can be used on multiple computers. QUARC individual licenses are only for a single computer. Please see our QUARC License Types Knowledge Base Article for information about this.
Many Quanser systems, such as QBot Platform and QCar 2, can be used with Python through our Quanser HIL SDK. Please see our Quanser HIL SDK page for a list of the Quanser systems and data-acquisition (DAQ) boards that are supported. See our Academic Applications GitHub page and Quanser Python API page for more Python examples.
No. You only need to update QUARC if the current version of QUARC you are using does not support a newer version of MATLAB. See “Does my QUARC license expire?” for more information.
Internet access is needed to log into your account and access the virtual twins. But the virtual experiment runs locally (i.e., not on the cloud).
You do not need QUARC if using virtual-only systems. You only need the Quanser Interactive Labs (QLabs) software. If you are using both hardware and virtual systems on the same computer with Simulink, then you need QUARC. QUARC includes QLabs by default.
QUARC does have an option for network licensing. The Quanser License Manager runs on the “server” computer and the clients have QUARC using the client license. This allows multiple computers to use QUARC.
QUARC is Quanser’s real-time control software that enables users to use Simulink with Quanser hardware. Quanser Interactive Labs (QLabs) is the software that runs the Quanser virtual experiments (it cannot be used for hardware). QUARC installs QLabs, so you can use both physical and virtual system on the same computer with QUARC.
2. Hardware
We strongly recommend using a motion capture system (e.g., Optitrack, Vicon). Our current resources are based on using a localization system. But the QDrone 2 has enough onboard sensors that make this possible for the researcher.
The QDrone 2 does not have a GPS as it’s designed for indoor use (i.e., GPS does not work well indoors). However, it is possible to connect certain GPS devices to the integrated data acquisition board. Please see the hardware user manual for more information on interfacing options.
The warranty is 15 month after the hardware product has been received. It covers full replacement.
Please email tech@quanser.com with a description of the issues and the product S/N.
The flight controller is a PID-based cascade control. This is implemented in QUARC using Simulink. Thus it can be modified by the user.
Full speed is approximately 4.34 m/s. This based on applying the maximum input to the PWM amplifier. It is not recommended to operate the QCar 2 at this speed.
